What E8 Means
WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: the E-series belongs to the Asko Logic and heat-pump tumble dryers - the T408HD, T410HD, T608HX and their siblings. On these the display shows "Error" and a number together with a short line of text, and holding the INFO button brings up the description. The older TD60-generation condenser dryers do not use E-codes at all; the TD60.1 panel shows F1 and F2, which are separate entries here, and the TD60.2, TD60.3, TD70 and TDC44 machines show plain-language messages instead of codes.
WHAT E8 MEANS: the line on the display is "E8 - Button failure. Please check user manuals or call service." Asko's description in the table is "Control unit failure", and the published action is "Call service centre."
WHAT THE MACHINE HAS NOTICED: the control is seeing a button input that does not make sense - most often a button that reads as permanently pressed. A panel that thinks a key is held down cannot tell the difference between that and a real press, so it stops rather than acting on it.
WHY THE TWO LINES DIFFER: the display names a button; the description places the fault in the control unit. On these machines the buttons are part of the user interface electronics, so both statements point at the same assembly.
THE ORDINARY CAUSE PEOPLE MISS: a touch panel wiped with a wet cloth, or one that has had steam condensing on it from the machine underneath, can hold a key in the pressed state until it dries out.
CLASSIFICATION: fault. Asko publishes no owner check, though the panel itself is worth a clean and a dry.

- Button or touch key reading as permanently pressed
- Moisture on or behind the control panel
- Something resting against the panel holding a key down
- User interface electronics faulty
- Control unit misreading the panel
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the dryer off at the outlet or the breaker before you clean the panel, so nothing responds to what you are doing, and let the machine cool. Wipe the control panel with a cloth that is barely damp and then dry it thoroughly, paying attention to the edges of the buttons where moisture collects. If the panel has been cleaned with a wet cloth or has had steam over it, leave it to dry properly before restoring power, then switch back on and see whether the code clears. Check no object is resting against the panel - a basket or a bottle of detergent on top of a machine in a stacked installation is enough to hold a key down. If E8 comes back on a clean, dry, unobstructed panel, Asko's instruction is to call. Do not lever the control panel off to look behind it.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Asko publishes no owner procedure for the panel electronics beyond calling the service centre.
- Levering a control panel off is how the panel, its clips and the ribbon behind it get damaged, and mains wiring runs immediately behind it.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
