Asko dishwasher work follows the water and then the control. On the way in: the supply valve, the inlet valve, the flow meter that counts the fill in pulses, and the water softener and its salt container. On the way out: the coarse and fine filters, the sump, the drain pump and the hose run to the disposer or standpipe. In between sit the circulation pump, the spray-arm diverter, the heating element and the thermistor that decides whether a load finishes clean and dry.

A good deal of what these machines record is never displayed. The service manuals repeatedly mark the temperature-stop, thermistor, pressure-sensor, turbidity-sensor and diverter faults as “only indicated in service menu” – the program carries on and the owner sees nothing. That is why a complaint about poor drying or a cycle that seems to take forever is worth a proper readout rather than a guess: the machine has often been logging the reason for months.

We isolate the appliance at the breaker and close the supply valve before anything comes apart, then measure the circuit a code points at instead of ordering the part the code is named after. Dishwasher Repair FAQ

On the current DBI, DFI and DSD machines the stored messages sit in the Settings menu under item 9, "Failure readout" - Asko puts them there specifically so the most recent message can be quoted when you book. Older machines keep the same information in a service menu reached with a button combination at power-on, and on several of those panels the fault is never shown to the owner at all. Note the code exactly as it appears, including whether it carries a colon.

Because Asko has used four different schemes. The DW20 and DW70 machines, sold here as the 3000 and 5000 series, show single characters: F1 to F9, FA and FB. The DW90 generation prints two digits with a colon, F:10 through F:45. The current DBI, DFI and DSD machines print two digits with no colon, F10 through F68. A list written for one of those platforms does not decode the others, and the single-character codes in particular belong only to the older machines. F10, F11 and F12 are the exception - they carry the same meanings on both of the two-digit platforms.

Close the water supply valve first, and switch the machine off at the breaker before anything is opened. With the power off, the coarse and fine filters lift out for cleaning, and Asko documents both filter cleaning and unblocking the drain pump as owner tasks in its own manual; the F11 and F52 messages point at the filters before they point at any part. Do not reach into the sump while the machine still has power. If the display is showing an overfilling message, Asko's own instruction is to shut the water supply valve before the appliance is disconnected from the outlet, and then to call for service rather than going further.

Asko builds a water softener into the dishwasher, and the salt container feeds it. It is easy to overlook, because a dishwasher that softens its own water is not the usual arrangement in a US kitchen, and a machine run for a long period without salt tends to show it as scale on the heating element and film on glassware. The setting has to match the hardness of the incoming supply. On the older platforms the salt valve is one of the components the service-menu test drives directly, so it can be proven rather than assumed.

It changes the setting up. A panel-ready door carries the weight of the cabinet front, and the door spring tension has to be matched to that weight, or the door drops, swings shut or will not stay where it is left. Whenever a panel is changed or the hinges are disturbed, that tension is set again as part of the job - and a door that has started to fall open is frequently the adjustment rather than a failed hinge.
