What E9 Means
WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: the E-series belongs to the Asko Logic and heat-pump tumble dryers - the T408HD, T410HD, T608HX and their siblings. On these the display shows "Error" and a number together with a short line of text, and holding the INFO button brings up the description. The older TD60-generation condenser dryers do not use E-codes at all; the TD60.1 panel shows F1 and F2, which are separate entries here, and the TD60.2, TD60.3, TD70 and TDC44 machines show plain-language messages instead of codes.
WHAT E9 MEANS: Asko's own wording is "E9 - PB/UI software versions are not compatible." PB is the power board; UI is the user interface board. Each carries its own software, and this code says the two versions do not match in a way the machine will accept. The published action is "Call service centre." There is no restart step offered, and that absence is meaningful - a version mismatch is a configuration state, not a glitch, so it does not clear by being switched off and on.
WHEN IT TENDS TO APPEAR: after one of the two boards has been replaced, or after a software update has reached one board and not the other. On a machine that has never been worked on it is uncommon.
WHAT IT IS NOT: anything mechanical. The drum, the heating, the condenser and the pump are not implicated by this code at all.
CLASSIFICATION: fault, in the machine's software configuration rather than in its hardware.

- One board replaced with a unit carrying a different software version
- Software update applied to one board and not the other
- Replacement board supplied unprogrammed or programmed for another model
- Configuration lost from one of the boards
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
There is nothing for an owner to do here and Asko does not pretend otherwise - it does not even offer the power cycle it offers for the other electronic codes. What genuinely helps is history. If either board has been replaced, or the dryer has had any electronic work done, say so when you call, because that is almost certainly the explanation and it changes what the technician needs to bring. Note the model and serial number from the plate in the door aperture, since board software is matched to a specific model and production range. Switch the machine off at the outlet or the breaker while it waits. Do not order a replacement board on the strength of this code - a board with the wrong version is what produces this fault in the first place.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Asko publishes no owner action for this code at all, not even the power cycle offered for the other electronic faults.
- Fitting another board without matching the software versions is how this fault arises, so buying parts from the code alone makes it worse.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
