What E7 Means
WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: the E-series belongs to the Asko Logic, Pro Home, Craft and Elements washers - models such as W2084, W4086, W6088X and the WM75 series. On these the display shows "Error" and the number; holding the INFO button brings up the description text, and EXIT returns to the main menu. The earlier W6xxx machines do not use E-codes at all; they show F10, F11 and F12, which are separate entries here.
WHAT E7 MEANS: the description text is "DRAINING ERROR", given in some editions as "Water draining error." The machine tried to empty the drum, did not get the level down in the time it allows, and stopped.
ASKO'S PUBLISHED ACTION: "Check the following: is the pump filter clean, is the drain hose clogged, is the drain clogged, is the drain hose fitted at the right height (see chapter on drain hose installation in the instruction manual). Then, press the Exit button again. If the error reoccurs, call a service technician." Note the fourth check - the height of the drain hose is an installation question, and a machine that has drained perfectly for years can start doing this after it has been moved.
THE RELATED ALERT: the same manual also carries E7.1, "DRAIN SYSTEM ALERT", which is a warning about reduced flow rather than a stop. Getting the alert repeatedly before the full error is the machine telling you the drain path is closing up.
CLASSIFICATION: fault, with genuine owner checks in front of it. The door stays locked while water is in the drum, which is correct behaviour rather than a second fault.
Common Causes of E7
- Pump filter blocked with lint, coins or hair clips
- Object jammed in the drain pump impeller
- Drain hose clogged, kinked or crushed
- House drain or waste connection blocked
- Drain hose fitted at the wrong height for the installation
- Drain pump worn or failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the machine off at the outlet or the breaker before opening the pump filter, because the pump is under the control of the board and the drum still has water in it, and put towels and a shallow tray down first. Release the filter slowly in stages so the water comes out at a rate you can catch - there can be several litres - and after an interrupted hot wash let the machine stand first, because that water is hot. Clean the filter and check the pump housing for coins, hair clips, underwire and buttons. Then check the drain hose along its whole run for kinks and crush points, check the waste connection for a blockage, and check the height the hose discharges at against the installation chapter in your manual - too low and the machine siphons, too high and it cannot lift the water. Refit the filter properly, restore power and press Exit. If the error returns, Asko's instruction is to call a service technician.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The drum holds water and the pump can be energised by the control, so the machine is switched off at the outlet or the breaker before the filter is opened.
- Releasing the filter in one movement empties several litres onto the floor, so it is opened in stages over a tray.
- After an interrupted hot wash that water is hot, which is a reason to let the machine stand before draining it by hand.
