What H2 Means

WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: the TL751 XXLW and the TLS752 XXL family, including the gas models. The H-series is specific to these machines.

WHAT H2 MEANS - THE SERVICE MANUAL WORDING: the TL751 XXLW service manual gives H2 as "Drying temperature sensor open/short error" and attributes it to the sensor being defective or disconnected. Two electrical conditions produce the same code: an open circuit, where the control sees nothing at all, and a short, where it sees a reading that cannot be real.

WHAT H2 MEANS - THE OWNER MANUAL WORDING: the TLS752 XXL operating instructions print H2 more briefly as "Temperature sensor error", with the remedy given as switching the power off and restarting.

WHY THE TWO DOCUMENTS ARE BOTH QUOTED: they are describing the same error at different levels of detail, and that is normal for a service manual against an owner manual. Neither wording is merged into the other here, because the owner manual does not say "open/short" and the service manual does not say to power-cycle.

WHAT THE SENSOR DOES AND WHY THE MACHINE STOPS: the drying temperature sensor is what the control uses to decide when to switch the heat on and off. Without a trustworthy reading from it, the machine has no way of knowing how hot the air in the drum is, so it stops rather than continue heating blind. That is the safe behavior and it is the reason this code does not let you simply carry on.

HOW THE MACHINE TELLS YOU: the same reporting pattern as the rest of the H-series. The service manual records that the unit buzzes for ten seconds every ten minutes while an error is indicated, and that the error display goes off when the power is switched on and off again.

CLASSIFICATION: problem. One power cycle is documented as the owner step, and there is nothing else published for an owner to do.

Common Causes of H2

  • Drying temperature sensor open circuit
  • Drying temperature sensor short circuit
  • Sensor disconnected at its plug, which the service manual names directly
  • Wiring between the sensor and the control board damaged or chafed
  • Control board problem

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Switch the machine off and on, which is the published owner remedy, and then watch what happens on the next program rather than on the display. If H2 comes straight back, the useful work is describing the pattern for whoever opens the machine: whether it appears at the start of a program or only once the machine has warmed up, whether it appears on every program or only the hotter ones, and whether the drum was noticeably hot or noticeably cold on the loads before it started. An intermittent problem that shows up once the cabinet is warm generally means a connection opening as it expands, not a failed sensor, and that saves a technician a good deal of time. Leave the dryer switched off at the wall or the breaker while it waits. Do not take the back off to look at the sensor plug: on these machines the sensor is in the hot air path next to the heating elements, or next to the burner assembly on the gas models, and both of those are live or gas-carrying whenever the machine is connected.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • The temperature sensor sits in the hot air path alongside the heating elements, or next to the burner assembly on a gas machine, so the dryer is switched off at the breaker and left to cool before any panel is disturbed.
  • On a gas model the burner compartment carries a gas supply as well as mains wiring, and opening it is not an owner task under any circumstances.
  • These machines are large and heavy and often stacked or built in, so moving one to reach the back is a two-person job with the supply disconnected first.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Both describe the same error. The service manual for the TL751 XXLW spells out that it covers an open circuit or a short, and the TLS752 XXL owner manual gives the shorter name and the power-cycle step. Use whichever document matches your model for the remedy, and treat the longer wording as the fuller description.

No. A timed program still relies on the temperature sensor to control the heat, so the control has the same reason to stop. The code is not about how the program measures dryness.
