What E2 Means
WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: the E-series belongs to the Asko Logic and heat-pump tumble dryers - the T408HD, T410HD, T608HX and their siblings. On these the display shows "Error" and a number together with a short line of text, and holding the INFO button brings up the description. The older TD60-generation condenser dryers do not use E-codes at all; the TD60.1 panel shows F1 and F2, which are separate entries here, and the TD60.2, TD60.3, TD70 and TDC44 machines show plain-language messages instead of codes.
WHAT E2 MEANS: the line on the display is "E2 - Please check user manuals or call service." The description in Asko's table is "Communication error", and the published action is "Call service centre."
WHAT COMMUNICATES WITH WHAT: these dryers have more than one electronic board - the panel you press and the board that runs the machine are not the same thing - and they exchange information continuously. E2 says that exchange is not working. Asko does not publish which link has failed, and we are not going to name one it has not.
WHY IT CAN LOOK LIKE SEVERAL DIFFERENT FAULTS: when the boards lose contact, what you see depends on which end is still working. The display may go blank, may freeze, may show the code and nothing else, or buttons may do nothing. None of that tells you anything about the drum, the heating or the condenser.
CLASSIFICATION: fault, in the electronics rather than in the drying side of the machine.
Common Causes of E2
- Connector between the control boards loose or corroded
- Harness between the boards damaged or chafed
- One of the boards faulty
- Supply disturbance that interrupted the link
- Moisture behind the control panel
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Asko gives no owner check for this code, but a complete power-down is worth one attempt because a communication fault between two boards is the kind of thing that is occasionally transient: switch the dryer off at the outlet or the breaker, leave it for a full minute so both boards lose power rather than resting in standby, then restore power and try a cycle. If E2 returns, call, which is the published instruction. Note anything that happened just before it started - a power cut, the machine being moved, water running down the front of the panel - because each of those disturbs the link in a different way and points a technician somewhere different. Do not open the machine to reseat connectors: the boards and the harness between them carry mains voltage, and on a heat-pump dryer the refrigerant circuit shares the same space.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Asko publishes no owner procedure for this code beyond calling the service centre.
- Both boards and the harness between them carry mains voltage, and on a heat-pump machine the sealed refrigerant circuit is behind the same panels.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
