What UNBALANCE Means
WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: the E-series belongs to the Asko Logic, Pro Home, Craft and Elements washers - models such as W2084, W4086, W6088X and the WM75 series. On these the display shows "Error" and the number; holding the INFO button brings up the description text, and EXIT returns to the main menu. The earlier W6xxx machines do not use E-codes at all; they show F10, F11 and F12, which are separate entries here. Not everything in that table is a number: a few conditions appear as plain text, and UNBALANCE is one of them.
WHAT THE MESSAGE MEANS: Asko's description is "UNBALANCE / Unevenly distributed laundry." Its published action is "Manually distribute the laundry and run the spinning program." That is the whole entry. There is no fault, no component and no service instruction attached to it.
WHAT THE MACHINE WAS DOING: before every spin the control tries to settle the load evenly around the drum, tumbling it at low speed and re-measuring. When it cannot get a distribution it is willing to spin, it says so rather than taking an unbalanced drum up to speed - which is what makes a washer bang, walk across the floor and wear its own bearings out.
CLASSIFICATION: normal status. This is the machine working exactly as designed and asking for thirty seconds of help. It is not a breakdown, and nothing here needs a technician.
THE NUMBERED RELATIVES: the same table carries E13.1, unbalance with an empty drum, and E13.2, an inertia error, with the same instruction. Which one you see depends on what the control measured, not on how serious the situation is.
Common Causes of UNBALANCE
- Single heavy item washed on its own
- Load bunched on one side of the drum
- Items roped together, often inside a duvet cover
- Machine not level or a foot not touching the floor
- Very mixed load of heavy and light items
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open the door and spread the load out by hand in loose heaps around the drum instead of leaving it as one mass on one side, then run the spinning programme. That is Asko's instruction and in most cases it is the end of it. If one heavy item is being washed alone - a bath mat, a pair of jeans, a padded jacket - add two or three towels so it has something to balance against; a single item cannot distribute itself. Unwind anything that has roped itself up, particularly a duvet cover that has collected the rest of the load inside it. Then check the machine stands firm on all four feet with no rock when you push a corner, because a washer that moves on an uneven floor will report unbalance on loads that are perfectly well packed.

- None - redistributing the laundry and checking the machine is level is ordinary use, and it is exactly what the manual asks for.
