What E7.1 Means
WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: the E-series belongs to the Asko Logic, Pro Home, Craft and Elements washers - models such as W2084, W4086, W6088X and the WM75 series. On these the display shows "Error" and the number; holding the INFO button brings up the description text, and EXIT returns to the main menu. The earlier W6xxx machines do not use E-codes at all; they show F10, F11 and F12, which are separate entries here. Sub-codes on this platform are written with a decimal point, which is why this one reads 7.1 rather than 71.
WHAT E7.1 MEANS: the description text is "DRAIN SYSTEM ALERT", given in full as "Water drain system alert. Alert about reduced water flow in the pumping stage." That is a different thing from the draining error, and the difference is the whole value of this code: the machine drained, it just drained more slowly than it should have.
ASKO'S PUBLISHED ACTION: "Check the following: is the pump filter clean, is the drain hose clogged, is the drain clogged, is the drain hose fitted at the right height (see chapter on drain hose installation)." There is no "call a service technician" on the end of it, because at this stage there is nothing to call about.
WHY IT IS WORTH ACTING ON: this is an early warning, and it is rare for an appliance to give one. A drain path that is closing up will eventually stop the machine as Error 7, with a locked door and a drum full of water, usually on the least convenient day. Cleaning the pump filter now is the whole job.
CLASSIFICATION: maintenance. The cycle completed; the machine is asking for attention, not reporting a breakdown.
Common Causes of E7.1
- Pump filter partly blocked, restricting flow without stopping it
- Lint or debris building up in the drain hose
- House drain or waste connection partly blocked
- Drain hose fitted at the wrong height
- Drain pump starting to lose performance
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the washer off at the outlet or the breaker before opening the pump filter, put towels and a shallow tray underneath, and release the filter slowly in stages so the residual water comes out at a manageable rate. Clean the filter thoroughly - it is the item Asko lists first - and check the housing behind it for coins, hair clips and underwire. Then run through the other three checks: follow the drain hose for kinks and crush points, check the waste connection where it discharges, and compare the height it discharges at against the drain hose installation chapter in your manual. Refit the filter properly and hand-tight. If the alert keeps coming back with a clean filter and a clear hose, the pump is losing performance and that is worth having looked at before it becomes a stopped cycle with the door locked.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The pump filter still holds water even after a completed cycle, so the machine is switched off at the outlet or the breaker and a tray is in place before it is opened.
- After a hot wash that residual water is hot, which is a reason to let the machine stand first.
