A marginal installation works. That is what makes it dangerous as a diagnosis: the machine runs for weeks, and by the time the symptoms arrive nobody connects them to the afternoon it was fitted. Three things account for most of it, and Asko publishes hard figures for two of them.
Levelling, and Why Four Feet Matter
A washing machine that is not sitting squarely on all four feet has a free corner. Every spin lifts and drops that corner, the machine walks, the balance routine intervenes more than it should, and over months the suspension and the hoses take loads they were not designed for. A machine that walks can also drag a drain hose out of a standpipe, which is the point at which an installation question becomes a water question.
Check it with the machine switched off and the taps closed: a spirit level across the top in both directions, then push each front corner in turn and feel for rock. The feet must be adjusted to remove the rock and then locked against the cabinet. Do not pack a foot with a wedge or a folded piece of card. And look at what the machine is standing on, because a suspended timber floor flexing under a spinning drum will produce movement no amount of levelling removes; a firm platform under the feet sometimes settles it.
Supply Pressure, in Published Numbers
Asko states the range its machines are designed for. For Logic-generation washers the manual asks for mains pressure between 0.1 and 1 MPa, which is 0.1 to 10 bar. For current dishwashers the figure printed alongside the water inlet fault is 4.2 to 140 psi. Australian-market dishwasher manuals add a warning worth repeating anywhere: if the inlet hose is connected through a pressure-limiting valve, some of those restrict the supply enough to cause a fault.
Low pressure produces an intermittent fault, not a permanent one, which is why it takes weeks to show up. The machine fills fine at eleven at night and reports an inlet fault at seven in the morning when three other outlets are running. If the complaint tracks household demand, the machine is a witness rather than the defendant.
Drain Height and the Siphon
Asko lists the drain hose height explicitly among the owner checks for a draining error: is the drain hose fitted at the right height, with a reference to the installation chapter. Both ends of the range cause trouble. Fitted too high, the pump cannot lift the water and the machine reports a drain failure. Fitted too low, or pushed too far down a standpipe so the end sits in standing water, the machine siphons: water runs out as fast as it comes in, the wash never reaches temperature, cycles stretch, and on a dishwasher you get a tub that never seems to hold water. Neither symptom looks like plumbing at first glance.
The same applies to a dishwasher drain that has lost its high loop, and to a new garbage disposal fitted with its dishwasher knockout plug still in place, which blocks the machine completely.
Do Not Move the Machine to Check
Every one of the checks above except the level is behind the appliance. Before anything goes back there: switch the machine off at its breaker or unplug it at a point you can reach without leaning over it, and close both supply taps. Then, and only then, look. Do not tilt a machine to see underneath and do not drag a built-in appliance forward out of its opening; the supply hose, the drain hose and the cable are cut close to the length the installation allows, and a hose pulled off a fitting behind a cabinet empties into the floor void before anyone notices. If the machine has to come out, that is a job with the water off and two people.
Why It Surfaces Late
A marginal install has a margin, and something eventually consumes it: an inlet filter silting up, a seasonal drop in mains pressure, a heavier load than usual, a hose that settles into a tighter kink as the machine creeps backwards. If a fault has appeared on a machine that was fine for a month, the installation is the first thing to re-examine rather than the last.
