What 0000 Means

WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: the US W6441 and W6461, whose error table it shares with the F-codes, and the text-display W6761, W640 and W660, where Asko notes it flashes at the top right of the LED window. It is not an error code in the ordinary sense and it is not part of any numbered series - it is four zeros flashing where a time or a program number would normally be.

WHAT ASKO PRINTS, QUOTED IN FULL: "If this message flashes on the LED, the machine has failed to spin. This could be because the load is out of balance. Turn the power off then on again. Open the door and redistribute the washing. Run the Spin program again."

WHAT THE MACHINE WAS DOING WHEN IT DECIDED TO SHOW THIS: before every spin the control settles the load, tumbling it at low speed and measuring how evenly the weight is sitting. If it cannot find a distribution it is prepared to take up to speed, it will not spin. That refusal is the whole point. An unbalanced drum at spin speed is what makes a washing machine hammer, walk across the floor and wear out its own bearings, and the control is designed to give up rather than do it.

WHY THE LAUNDRY IS SOAKING: because the spin did not happen, not because anything drained badly. The water is still in the fabric rather than in the drum.

CLASSIFICATION: normal status. Nothing has failed, no part is involved, and the machine is asking for a minute of help rather than reporting a breakdown.

Common Causes of 0000

  • Single heavy item spinning on its own
  • Load bunched on one side of the drum
  • Items roped together, often inside a duvet cover
  • Machine not level, or a foot not touching the floor
  • Very mixed load of heavy and light items
  • Load too large for the drum to move freely

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Follow Asko's own sequence, which is short. Turn the power off and on again, open the door, and spread the washing out by hand in loose heaps around the drum instead of leaving it as one mass on one side. Then run the spin program on its own. That fixes the great majority of these. If one heavy item is in there alone - a bath mat, a pair of jeans, a padded jacket, a single towel - add two or three other items so it has something to balance against, because a single heavy thing cannot distribute itself however many times the machine tries. Unwind anything that has roped up, particularly a duvet cover that has collected the rest of the load inside it. While the door is open, push a top corner of the machine and check it does not rock: a washer standing on a foot that is not quite touching the floor will refuse to spin loads that are perfectly well packed, and leveling it is a screwdriver-free job with the feet. If a modest, evenly spread load on a machine that stands firm still will not spin, that is worth having looked at rather than repeating.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None - redistributing the load, running the spin program again and checking the machine stands firm is ordinary use, and it is exactly what the manual asks for.
  • If the machine still refuses to spin an even, modest load, the next step is a service call rather than running the spin repeatedly, because each attempt takes a drum that has already been reported as unbalanced towards speed.

0000 FAQ

Because the display is not showing a code. It is showing that the machine has nothing to report about a spin that did not happen. Asko's own entry gives the likely reason as the load being out of balance and the remedy as redistributing it.

Yes, and predictably so. Single heavy items, bulky bedding and loads that mix one heavy thing with several light ones are the awkward cases, because there is nothing for the weight to balance against as the drum comes up to speed.
