What H3 Means

WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: H3 is printed only for the gas models in the TLS752 XXL family - the TLS752GXXL and the TLS752 GXXLRR. The electric machines in the same family do not use it, because they have no flame to detect. If your dryer is electric, this code is not in its table.

WHAT H3 MEANS: the TLS752 XXL operating instructions list H3 under gas models as "Flame detector problem", and the printed instruction is to contact customer care. Asko gives no owner check for this code at all, and that absence is deliberate rather than an omission.

WHAT THE FLAME DETECTOR DOES: a gas dryer does not simply open a valve and light a burner. It opens the valve only while a sensor confirms that a flame is actually present, and shuts the gas off the moment that confirmation stops. The flame detector is that sensor. It is the part that makes the difference between a burner that is alight and a burner that is releasing gas into the cabinet. When the control cannot trust it, the correct response is to stop, and the machine does.

WHY THIS PAGE CARRIES A HIGHER SEVERITY THAN THE OTHER H-CODES: the rest of the H-series concerns sensors and heater circuits. This one concerns the safety interlock on a gas appliance. The machine has already done the right thing by stopping, and the job now is to keep it stopped until someone qualified has looked at it.

HOW THE MACHINE TELLS YOU: the same reporting pattern as the rest of the family. The service documentation for the sister model records that the unit buzzes for ten seconds every ten minutes while an error stands, and that the display clears when the power is switched off and on. Clearing the display does not clear the condition.

CLASSIFICATION: problem on a gas appliance, with no published owner procedure. Asko's entire instruction for it is to call for service.

Common Causes of H3

  • Flame detector failed or out of position
  • Wiring or connector between the flame detector and the control board
  • Igniter or burner not establishing a flame the detector can confirm
  • Gas supply to the burner interrupted or restricted
  • Control board problem on the ignition circuit

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

There is no owner check for this one and nothing on this page will suggest otherwise. What you should do is stop using the dryer, switch it off at the wall or the breaker, and close the gas shut-off valve on the supply line to the machine if there is one you can reach without moving the appliance or disturbing any fitting. Leave it closed. If you can smell gas at any point, do not operate any switch on the machine or anywhere near it, leave the room, and call the gas utility emergency line from outside the building before calling anyone about the dryer. Do not restart the machine to see whether the code comes back, do not clear the code and run another load, and do not open the lower front or the back panel: the burner assembly, the gas valve and the ignition circuit are behind those panels, the gas connection is a fitting rather than a plug, and a gas appliance whose flame detection is in doubt is not something to test at home. When you call for service, say that the machine is gas and that it is reporting a flame detection problem, because that changes who is sent.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • The burner compartment carries both a gas supply and mains wiring, and the gas connection is a threaded fitting rather than a plug, so it is not opened, moved or loosened by an owner.
  • The flame detector is the part that proves a flame exists before gas keeps flowing, so testing it by running the machine is testing the one thing that should not be tested by running the machine.
  • Moving the dryer to reach the back puts load on the flexible gas connector, which is the part least tolerant of being flexed and the part most likely to be disturbed without anyone noticing.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

H3 FAQ

The display is built to clear on a power cycle, so it says nothing about the problem. On a gas machine reporting flame detection, running another load is putting the appliance back into the state it stopped itself out of.

H3 is printed only against the gas models in this family. If an electric machine is showing it, the code needs reading against your own model's documentation rather than against the gas column, and that is a question for a technician with the model number in front of them.
