What OVER FLOW Means

WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: the TDC33 and TDC44 commercial tumble dryers, the industrial dryer range whose service manual is published as the DAM 5 industrial dryer manual. These machines do not use numbered codes. The manual puts it plainly: the display text field shows a message if a problem occurs during the time the program is running. The TDC33 is the vented model and the TDC44 is the condenser model, which matters because one message in the set exists only on the condenser machine.

WHAT ELSE IS ON THE PROFESSIONAL DRYER LINE, SO YOU DO NOT READ THE WRONG PAGE: the current professional platform - the TDC177 and TDC1773 machines - reports numbered E-codes on a display and has an INFO button that turns the number into a sentence. Those are separate entries here and their meanings are not interchangeable with these messages. If your display shows an E and a number, this is not your page.

WHICH MACHINE, AND WHY THAT IS THE FIRST THING TO SAY: this message belongs to the TDC44, the condenser model. The manual is explicit about the reason - the TDC33 is the vented model, it has no condensation tank, and so this message does not exist on it. If you have a TDC33 showing something that looks like this, it is not this.

WHY TWO STRINGS SHARE THE PAGE: the service manual uses "Overfull" and the user section of the same document uses "Over flow" for the same condition. Two wordings, one tank.

WHAT IT MEANS: the condensation water tank is full. A condenser dryer does not vent its moisture outside - it condenses the water out of the air and collects it, and when the collection tank is full it has nowhere to put any more. The manual's instruction is to empty it and restart.

WHY A COMMERCIAL ROOM SEES THIS OFTEN AND SHOULD: a machine drying load after load produces water at a rate a domestic dryer never approaches. The tank filling is not an error, it is arithmetic, and emptying it belongs in the room's routine alongside the filters rather than in a problem log.

WHEN IT IS A FAULT: the manual says so itself - if the same error message appears again after the tank has been emptied, it can mean the pump or float arrangement is to blame. That is the line that separates a full tank from a machine that cannot tell whether the tank is full or cannot move the water into it.

CLASSIFICATION: routine maintenance first, problem second. The first response is a tank and a tea towel, not a telephone.

Common Causes of OVER FLOW

  • Condensation tank genuinely full, which in commercial use is normal
  • Tank not seated fully back in its housing after emptying
  • Float or level arrangement in the tank fouled with fiber
  • Condensate pump not moving water as it should
  • Condenser unit blocked, changing where the water collects

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Empty the condensation tank and restart the machine, which is the whole of the published instruction. Do it properly while you are there: pour the tank out, rinse it, look inside it for the sludge of fine fiber that collects in a commercial machine and wipe it out, and check that the tank seats fully back in its housing - a tank not pushed home is a common reason a machine still thinks it is full. Let the machine cool before you go near filters, then clean the door filter and the condenser unit at the same time, because a blocked condenser changes how much water ends up where. If the message comes straight back on an empty, properly seated tank, stop emptying it and report it, because the manual itself points at the pump and the float from that point on and those are inside the machine. In a room with several condenser machines, putting the tanks on a fixed round - every shift, or every few loads - takes this message out of the problem log altogether, which is where it belongs.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None for emptying, rinsing and reseating the tank - that is the manual's instruction and part of routine care.
  • The machine is left to cool before the filters and the condenser unit are opened, because a commercial dryer holds heat after a cycle.
  • If the message returns on an empty tank, the pump and float arrangement are inside the machine and it is isolated at its breaker or wall isolator before anything is opened.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

OVER FLOW FAQ

No, it is what a condenser dryer does under commercial load. The water has to go somewhere and the tank is where. Put it on a fixed round rather than waiting for the message.

The manual says that is the point at which the pump or the float arrangement comes into question. Check the tank is seated properly first, and if it is, report it rather than emptying it again.
