What E31 Means
WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: the E-series belongs to the Asko Logic, Pro Home, Craft and Elements washers - models such as W2084, W4086, W6088X and the WM75 series. On these the display shows "Error" and the number; holding the INFO button brings up the description text, and EXIT returns to the main menu. The earlier W6xxx machines do not use E-codes at all; they show F10, F11 and F12, which are separate entries here.
WHICH MACHINES SPECIFICALLY: the Asko washers fitted with the Auto Dose System. The peristaltic pumps are what move measured detergent and softener out of the refillable containers and into the machine.
WHAT E31 MEANS: the description text is "PERISTALTIC PUMP 1 ERROR". Asko's published action is "Call a service technician."
A WARNING ABOUT OTHER CODE LISTS: several multi-brand error-code tables on the web define E31 as a pressure-sensor fault. That is a code from a different manufacturer's scheme, and it has been copied into Asko lists by sites that do not separate the brands. On an Asko washer with Auto Dose, E31 is the first peristaltic dosing pump. Acting on the other definition means looking at the wrong part of the machine entirely.
WHAT A PERISTALTIC PUMP IS: a pump that squeezes liquid along a flexible tube with rollers, so the liquid never touches the mechanism. It is the standard way to dose a measured quantity of something viscous, and the tube is the part that wears.
CLASSIFICATION: fault, in the dosing system rather than in the wash.
Common Causes of E31
- Peristaltic pump motor failed
- Pump tube collapsed, perished or blocked with dried detergent
- Wiring or connector to the pump damaged
- Control unit not driving the pump
- Detergent too thick or dried in the line
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Asko gives no owner check here, and the pump is inside the machine, so there is nothing to open. What helps is the history: note whether one of the two Auto Dose containers has stopped emptying while the other still goes down, because that is the clearest outside sign of which dosing line has stopped working. Note whether the detergent in use is unusually thick or has been left long enough to have thickened in the container, since that loads a peristaltic tube hard. Check the container is seated and its cap closed. In the meantime you can wash normally by dosing into the manual drawer by hand. Do not attempt to reach the pump: it sits inside the cabinet with its wiring in the main loom, and the machine has to be isolated at the outlet or the breaker before any panel is removed.

- Asko's published instruction for this code is to call a service technician; there is no owner-level procedure.
- The dosing pumps sit inside the cabinet with their wiring in the machine's mains loom, so nothing there is reached with the washer connected to power.
