What HUMIDITY OUT OF RANGE Means

WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: this code belongs to the Asko wine climate cabinet WCN311942G and it comes from that cabinet's own instruction book. The WCN311942G is a three-zone cabinet with a touch display, and the code alphabet it uses - E, F, H, P, T and U letters sorted by the part that reported the problem - belongs to this cabinet and to nothing else in the Asko range. That matters more here than almost anywhere else on this site: the same short strings appear on Asko washers, dryers and drying cabinets with entirely different meanings, so a wine-cabinet F2 has nothing whatever to do with a washer F2 or a drying-cabinet F2.

HOW THE CABINET TELLS YOU: the code arrives as a pop-up notification on the touch display. It stays on the screen until it is dismissed with X or Confirm, and if the condition behind it has not been dealt with, the notification comes back three hours later. That timer catches people out. The message goes away when it is tapped, the cabinet seems fine all evening, and the same code is on the screen again in the morning. Nothing has gone wrong twice - the cabinet has simply looked again.

WHAT THIS NOTIFICATION IS: a plain-worded warning rather than a code. The WCN311942G prints it as "Humidity out of range", and it belongs to the same group of messages as the temperature-out-of-range warning and the power-failure alert - conditions the cabinet reports in words instead of naming a part with a letter and a number.

WHAT IT IS SAYING: the air in the cabinet is drier or damper than the range it works to. That is a statement about the air, not about a sensor. When a sensor is the problem, this cabinet says so with an H-code - H1, H2 and H3 for the three zones and H4 for the outside environment - and those are separate entries here.

WHY HUMIDITY IS ON A WINE CABINET'S LIST AT ALL: a cork only seals while it stays swollen. Air held too dry for months shrinks it and lets the bottle breathe, which is the slow way to lose a cellar; air held too damp lifts labels and encourages mold on corks and wood. Neither happens overnight, and that is the honest framing for this warning - it is a message to act on this week, not tonight.

WHAT ORDINARILY CAUSES IT: a door opened often or left ajar, so the cabinet keeps exchanging its air for the room's; a spill inside; a very dry heated room in winter or a very damp one in summer; or a cabinet recently installed and not yet settled.

WHAT ASKO PUBLISHES: the message itself, in the same book as the codes. There is no numbered code behind it and there is no need to look one up.

Common Causes of HUMIDITY OUT OF RANGE

  • Door opened frequently or left ajar, so cabinet air keeps being exchanged for room air
  • A spill, or damp packaging such as cardboard stored inside
  • Very dry heated room in winter or a very damp room in summer
  • Cabinet recently installed or recently loaded and not yet settled
  • A problem in the cabinet, which the H-codes rather than this message would name

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Think about air rather than about parts. Check the door closes properly on its whole seal, and look at how often it has been opened - a cabinet in daily use in a dry heated room will swap its air far more than one that is opened twice a week. Wipe up any spill inside with a cloth, dry the surface, and take out anything that has been stored in the cabinet that should not be there, including cardboard, which both holds and gives up moisture. Note the room: a dehumidifier running nearby in summer, or dry central heating in winter, changes what the cabinet is drawing on. Read the humidity figures for all three zones and write them down with the date, then again a few days later, so you can see whether the cabinet is recovering on its own once the door is left alone. Do not put a dish of water, a damp sponge or any other improvised source of moisture inside - free water in a cool cabinet grows mold on labels and corks, which is the very thing the range exists to prevent. If the message keeps returning on the three-hour timer with a properly closed door in a normal room, hand it over with your readings.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None for the checks above - the door, the contents, the spill and the room are ordinary owner territory.
  • Improvised sources of moisture inside a cool cabinet cause mold on corks, labels and wooden shelving, so they are not a stopgap.
  • If the message persists with a closed door in normal room conditions, the parts involved are behind interior panels where live wiring and the sealed refrigerant circuit run.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

HUMIDITY OUT OF RANGE FAQ

No, and the difference is the useful part. This message says the air is outside its range; an H code says the instrument that measures the air has a problem. One is a condition, the other is a part, and if a zone reports both then the code is the thing to have repaired.

Slowly. Corks and labels respond over months, so this is a warning to act on in the next few days rather than a reason to move a cellar tonight.
