What H3 Means

WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: this code belongs to the Asko wine climate cabinet WCN311942G and it comes from that cabinet's own instruction book. The WCN311942G is a three-zone cabinet with a touch display, and the code alphabet it uses - E, F, H, P, T and U letters sorted by the part that reported the problem - belongs to this cabinet and to nothing else in the Asko range. That matters more here than almost anywhere else on this site: the same short strings appear on Asko washers, dryers and drying cabinets with entirely different meanings, so a wine-cabinet F2 has nothing whatever to do with a washer F2 or a drying-cabinet F2.

HOW THE CABINET TELLS YOU: the code arrives as a pop-up notification on the touch display. It stays on the screen until it is dismissed with X or Confirm, and if the condition behind it has not been dealt with, the notification comes back three hours later. That timer catches people out. The message goes away when it is tapped, the cabinet seems fine all evening, and the same code is on the screen again in the morning. Nothing has gone wrong twice - the cabinet has simply looked again.

WHAT H3 MEANS: the part table in the instruction book reads "Humidity sensor error for zone C." Zone C is the third independently controlled zone, and H3 is the code for the humidity sensor in it.

WHY THERE ARE FOUR OF THESE CODES: because the cabinet measures humidity in each zone separately and in the room as well. H1, H2 and H3 are the three zones in order, and H4 is the sensor for the outside environment. The number identifies the instrument, not the severity - a point worth making because a higher number reads like a worse problem and here it simply means a different place.

WHAT ASKO PUBLISHES BESIDE IT: the meaning and no action. The part table gives the part and the zone and stops, so this page does the same rather than filling the gap with a plausible-sounding consequence.

WHAT IT IS NOT TELLING YOU: nothing about the temperature in zone C. That has its own code, T8, and the zone C evaporator sensor has T9. Three different instruments in one zone, three separate codes, and mixing them up sends a technician to the wrong part.

Common Causes of H3

  • Humidity sensor for zone C failed or reading out of range
  • Connector or wiring to that sensor disturbed
  • Condensation on the sensor
  • Power board not reading the sensor
  • Room conditions around a built-in cabinet: a blocked plinth grille or a closed-in aperture changes what every sensor in the cabinet is working against

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Read and record, then wait a little. Note the humidity and temperature figures for all three zones together with the date, keep the door closed, and compare a day later. If zone C is the one that is blank, stuck or reporting something a closed cabinet cannot be, the code and the display agree with each other and there is nothing more for an owner to establish. Take a note of the room as well - a garage or a utility space that swings from damp to dry with the weather is useful context for whoever attends. Practical care for the bottles in the meantime is unchanged: on their sides, door shut, settings left alone. Do not remove interior panels or trim to find the sensor. Its wiring is live whenever the cabinet is connected to power, and the sealed refrigerant circuit runs behind the same surfaces, so this is a service part rather than an owner part.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Asko prints the meaning of this code with no action beside it, so there is no manufacturer procedure for an owner to work through.
  • The sensor and its wiring sit inside the cabinet at mains voltage whenever it is connected to power.
  • The sealed refrigerant circuit runs behind the same panels that would have to come off, and that circuit is not opened outside a workshop.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

H3 FAQ

No. In this cabinet the number tells you which instrument reported, not how bad it is. H3 is zone C rather than anything worse than H1.

It is worth reporting exactly that way. Two sensors failing at once is less likely than something they have in common, such as the wiring loom or the board that reads them, and that is a distinction a technician can measure.
