What E0 Means

WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: this code belongs to the Asko wine climate cabinet WCN311942G and it comes from that cabinet's own instruction book. The WCN311942G is a three-zone cabinet with a touch display, and the code alphabet it uses - E, F, H, P, T and U letters sorted by the part that reported the problem - belongs to this cabinet and to nothing else in the Asko range. That matters more here than almost anywhere else on this site: the same short strings appear on Asko washers, dryers and drying cabinets with entirely different meanings, so a wine-cabinet F2 has nothing whatever to do with a washer F2 or a drying-cabinet F2.

HOW THE CABINET TELLS YOU: the code arrives as a pop-up notification on the touch display. It stays on the screen until it is dismissed with X or Confirm, and if the condition behind it has not been dealt with, the notification comes back three hours later. That timer catches people out. The message goes away when it is tapped, the cabinet seems fine all evening, and the same code is on the screen again in the morning. Nothing has gone wrong twice - the cabinet has simply looked again.

WHAT E0 MEANS: the communication-error list in the instruction book reads "Communication error from power board to user interface electronics". Two boards run this cabinet. The power board switches the compressor and the fans, works the zone control and reads every sensor. The user interface electronics are the touch display you set the temperatures on. E0 says the message from the power board to that display is not arriving the way it should.

WHAT THAT DOES AND DOES NOT TELL YOU: this is a problem in the conversation between two boards, not a statement about the cooling. The compressor and the fans sit on the power board's side of that conversation, so they may be running perfectly well while the display has stopped being told about it. The other half of that thought is the reason not to leave it: a display that is not being told anything cannot warn you about a zone drifting.

WHAT ASKO PUBLISHES BESIDE IT: the meaning, and nothing else. There is no action column against the communication errors in this book, so there is no manufacturer's owner procedure to work through and no published statement of what the cabinet does while the code is up. We are not going to supply one.

THE OTHER DIRECTION HAS ITS OWN CODE: the same list carries E8 for the reverse path, user interface electronics to power board. Two codes, two directions, and Asko keeps them apart.

WHAT YOU MAY READ ELSEWHERE: at least one repair site states that Asko's integrated cabinets publish no codes at all and are diagnosed from sign tables only. For the WCN311942G that is plainly wrong - its book prints twenty-two codes, this being the first of them. No manual for the smaller WCN111942G could be located anywhere, so whether that cabinet shares this set is unknown and nothing on this page should be assumed to apply to it.

Common Causes of E0

  • Connector or ribbon cable between the power board and the display disturbed
  • User interface electronics failed
  • Power board failed
  • Supply disturbance that the boards did not recover from
  • Condensation or moisture reaching a connector

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Read the zone temperatures off the display before you touch anything and write them down with the time. If the display still shows plausible temperatures and the bottles feel right to the hand, the cooling is probably still running and you are arranging a visit rather than dealing with an emergency. Then dismiss the notification and note whether it returns on the three-hour timer, because a code that comes back is a live condition and a code that does not may have been one disturbance. A complete power-down is the one reset worth trying: switch the cabinet off at the breaker or its isolating switch, leave it a full minute so both boards lose power instead of resting in standby, then restore it. Keep the door closed while the power is off - a loaded cabinet holds its temperature for a long time with the door shut and very little time with it open. Do not take off the plinth grille, the back panel or the display assembly to look at connectors: the boards carry mains voltage whenever the cabinet is connected, and the sealed refrigerant circuit runs behind the same panels.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Asko prints the meaning of this code with no action beside it, so there is no manufacturer procedure for an owner to follow.
  • Both boards carry mains voltage whenever the cabinet is connected, and the sealed refrigerant circuit sits behind the same panels as the wiring.
  • A loaded wine cabinet is heavy and built in, so drawing it out to reach the back is a two-person job that puts load on the feet and on the units either side.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E0 FAQ

It can look exactly like that. When the link between the two boards fails, what you see depends on which end is still alive, and the board that runs the compressor is not the board that draws the screen.

The wine is not in danger from the code itself, but the warning system is gone. If a zone starts to drift, the display that would have told you is the part that has stopped being told.
