What CLEAN FILTER Means

WHY THESE ARE ON ONE PAGE: Asko's text-display dryers print several different cleaning prompts, and owners reasonably read all of them as faults. They are not faults. They are scheduled reminders and maintenance requests, and the machine is working normally when it shows one. Two Asko documents supply the wording, and the platform each belongs to is given below so that nothing is carried across.

TD70.2 AND TD70.3, FROM THE TD70 SERVICE MANUAL:
"Clean condenser" - not a fault but a service reminder. The causes Asko prints are "1. Displayed automatically every 100 cycles. 2. Displayed if the machine has indicated 'Clean filter' twice in a row." The customer checks are "Cleaned the condenser and the filter" and "Cleaned the other air passages". The second cause is the interesting one: the machine escalates from asking about the filter to asking about the condenser when the filter prompt has not solved anything.
"Clean Lint Filter" - customer check printed: "Cleaned the lint filter."
"Clean auto filter" - "Displayed automatically every 10 cycles." Customer check: "Cleaned the water filter."
"Clean filter" - customer check: "Cleaned the evaporator filter (net filter + foam filter) and the evaporator."

TD75 MACHINES (T408HD AND T608HX), FROM THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
"Clean door filter" and "Clean the condenser unit" appear in the information messages table, as does the combined "Please empty the water tank and clean door filter". These sit in a section Asko heads "INFORMATION before, during, and after the program", which is the manufacturer's own signal that they are not fault codes.

WHY A DRYER ASKS FOR THIS SO OFTEN: every one of these components exists to keep air moving. A dryer works by pushing heated air through the load and carrying the moisture away, and every filter and every fin in the path collects lint. A machine with restricted airflow does not announce itself by breaking; it announces itself by taking longer, running hotter for longer, and eventually tripping a protective device. The reminders exist so that does not happen.

WHAT YOU MAY READ ELSEWHERE: a repair site publishes several of these same meanings under code strings such as LCD1, LCD2, LCD3 and S-numbers, presented as things a TD70 display shows. They are not display strings. They are reference designators from the panel drawing printed at the top of the same manual page - the label for the display itself and for the buttons around it. The meanings are broadly right, but the codes do not exist, and no owner will see them on a panel.

CLASSIFICATION: routine maintenance. Nothing has failed and there is nothing to be alarmed by.

Common Causes of CLEAN FILTER

  • Scheduled interval reached - every 100 cycles for the condenser prompt and every 10 cycles for the auto filter prompt on the TD70.2 and TD70.3
  • Lint filter genuinely blocked, or blinded by fabric softener film while still looking clear
  • Condenser or evaporator fins matted with lint
  • Filter prompt shown twice in a row without being resolved, which escalates the machine to the condenser prompt
  • Filter refitted while still damp, or not seated so that air bypasses it
  • Water or auto filter on a TD70.2 machine due for rinsing

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Switch the machine off and let it cool before you open anything, because the filter housing and the air path behind it hold heat after a cycle. Then match the prompt to the part. A lint or door filter comes out of the door opening or the front housing: peel the lint off, then wash the mesh under a tap to clear the invisible film that fabric softener leaves, and let it dry completely before refitting, since a damp filter passes very little air. A condenser is cleaned as your own model's manual describes, usually by unlocking a flap at the bottom front, drawing the unit out and rinsing it through the direction the manual specifies, then refitting it until the catches engage. A heat-pump evaporator filter is a two-stage affair - a fine net filter and a foam filter behind it - and Asko's own remedy names both, along with wiping the face of the evaporator itself; clean the fins only as far as the manual allows, with a soft brush or a vacuum nozzle held clear, never with water and never with anything that can bend them. An auto or water filter on the TD70.2 machines is rinsed as the manual describes. Refit everything properly, then clear the message the way your platform does - on the TD70 machines that means switching off at the main power switch. If a prompt keeps returning immediately after a thorough clean, that is no longer a reminder and is worth a service call.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None beyond the ordinary precautions - these are the maintenance tasks Asko asks the owner to do, with the machine switched off and cool first.
  • Evaporator and condenser fins bend under very little force and a bent fin blocks air permanently, so the cleaning stays within the method the manual describes.
  • If a prompt returns immediately after a full clean, the reason is no longer maintenance and the machine needs looking at rather than another clean.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

CLEAN FILTER FAQ

No. On the TD70 platform that prompt appears automatically every hundred cycles, and also when the filter prompt has come up twice without being resolved. It is a schedule and an escalation, not a failure.

Check it is dry and fully seated first, since a damp or badly seated filter behaves like a blocked one. If it is dry, seated and the prompt persists, the machine is no longer asking for maintenance and it is worth having looked at.
