What F10 Means
WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: F10, F11 and F12 are the only numeric fault codes Asko publishes for the W6xxx generation, including the W-series machines sold in the United States. They are not E-codes and they are not the same scheme as the later Logic and Pro Home washers, which show "Error" followed by a number.
W6xxx GENERATION - WHAT F10 MEANS: the user manual gives it in two words - "F10 Overfilling" - and then a numbered instruction that starts with the tap: "1. Shut off the water tap. 2. See 'Drainage error'." Asko points you at the drainage fault because overfilling and failing to drain produce the same end state, a drum with more water in it than the programme wanted.
WHAT THE ORDER OF THAT INSTRUCTION TELLS YOU: the water comes off before anything is investigated. The machine has water it did not ask for, and until the tap is closed the source of it is still connected.
CLASSIFICATION: fault, with a water risk. The drum holding more than it should is not in itself a flood, but the conditions that cause it - a valve passing water, a drain path that will not clear - are the ones that lead to one.
A NOTE ON WHAT YOU MAY READ ELSEWHERE: several parts sites publish an Asko washing machine table of single-digit F1 to F9 codes. Three of those lists exist and none of them agrees with the other two, and no Asko washer manual we obtained assigns single-digit F-codes at all. F10, F11 and F12 are the numbers Asko itself publishes for this generation.
Common Causes of F10
- Drain path blocked so the water taken in cannot leave
- Drain pump blocked by a coin, a wire or a hair clip
- Kink in the drainage hose
- Inlet valve passing water when it should be closed
- Water level sensing reporting incorrectly
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Shut off the water tap to the washer first, exactly as the manual instructs, and leave it closed. Then work through the drainage checks Asko lists under the drainage error, because that is where its own instruction sends you: switch the machine off at the outlet or the breaker before reaching into the pump area, expect water, and have towels and a shallow tray ready. Check that nothing is stuck in the drainage hose outlet, that the drain pump is not blocked by foreign objects - cleaning the pump is described in the care and cleaning chapter of the W6xxx manual as an owner task - and that there are no kinks in the drainage hose. Afterwards, the manual says to run the drain programme or press the door opening button to empty the machine. If the drum fills again with the tap closed, that is impossible and means the water is coming from inside; if it fills again once you reopen the tap, the inlet valve is the suspect and that is a service call.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The tap is closed first because a machine that is overfilling is still connected to the mains supply, and the tap is the only control over that from outside the appliance.
- The drum can hold several litres, so the machine is switched off at the outlet or the breaker and a tray and towels are in place before the pump filter is opened.
- Wash water can still be hot from the cycle that stopped, which is a reason to let the machine stand before draining it by hand.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
