What F52 Means
WHICH MACHINES THIS APPLIES TO: F52 is published only for the current Asko dishwashers - the DBI, DFI, DSD and DW60-series machines from roughly 2015 onward. It is not in the DW20, DW70 or DW90 fault tables, so if your machine prints its codes with a colon or uses single characters, this code is not on it.
CURRENT PLATFORM - WHAT F52 MEANS: the user manual names it "Water level fault", and the instruction it gives the owner is specific and practical: clean the coarse and fine filters, and if the problem persists contact service. The Australian edition of the same manual adds one more check - that the outer filter on the inlet hose is not blocked. Asko does not publish a longer technical description for this code in the consumer manual, and we are not going to supply one it did not write.
WHAT THE MACHINE IS TELLING YOU: the water in the tub is not where the control expects it to be during the programme. The fact that Asko's own first instruction is filter cleaning says something useful about which way it usually goes: choked filters restrict what the circulation pump can draw, and the level the machine senses stops matching the level it asked for.
CLASSIFICATION: maintenance first, fault second. The manufacturer's published response is a cleaning task, and only if that does not settle it does it become a service matter.
CLEARING IT: on this platform pressing any button clears the error message, and stored errors can be read back later through the settings menu under "Failure readout".

- Coarse and fine filters blocked
- Filters refitted without seating properly
- Object lodged in the sump restricting flow
- Outer filter on the inlet hose blocked, on the machines whose manual names it
- Level sensing circuit faulty
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the dishwasher off at the outlet or the breaker before you reach into the tub, and give it time to cool - the sump holds the wash water and the element is in there with it. Then do what the manual asks: lift out the coarse filter and the fine filter, which come out by hand on these machines, and wash them under a running tap with a soft brush until the mesh is open to the light rather than merely looking clean. Check the sump underneath for a seed, a stone or a shard of glass, and lift anything out with a cloth. Refit both filters and make sure the coarse one seats and locks, because a filter sitting proud changes the flow the machine is trying to measure. If your manual is the edition that names the outer filter on the inlet hose, close the supply tap first, let the pressure off, put a towel under the coupling and then rinse that screen too. Run a normal programme. If F52 returns with clean filters, it is a service call.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The wash water and the heating element stay hot after a cycle, so the machine needs to cool before the filters are lifted out.
- Broken glass collects in the sump and is invisible in cloudy water, which is why debris is lifted with a cloth rather than by hand.
- The inlet hose is under mains pressure, so its screen is only rinsed after the supply tap is closed and the pressure released.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
